Quarter 3, Week 8 - Verbals

In week 8, we learned about Verbals. A verbal is a term that is formed from a verb and used as a noun or modifier (adjective or adverb) rather than a verb in a phrase. Infinitives, gerunds (also known as -ing forms), and participles are examples of verbals (also known as -ing forms and -en forms). A verbal phrase is made up of a verb, its object, and any modifiers. There are 3 types of verbals. First is Gerunds, which are verbs with the suffix -ing that serve as nouns. The second is Infinitives, which are verbals that serve as nouns, adjectives, or adverbs (typically preceded by the particle to). The third is Participles, – which are adjectives that are formed from verbs. It uses the verb's participle (for example, selected) or its present participle (-ing form like caring).

I learned that verbal is a verb form that acts as another part of speech in a sentence. A verbal can function as a noun, direct object, subject complement, adjective, adverb, or object of a preposition. It also helps form tenses like the perfect and progressive. There are three types of verbals – gerunds, infinitives, and participles. The highlight of the topic is Verbals.

QUARTER 3, WEEK 7- TONE, MOOD, TECHNIQUE, AND PURPOSE

For this week's topic, we have Tone, Mood, Technique, and Purpose. Tone refers to the author's perspective on a subject, character, or audience. It is accomplished by the use of diction, sentence structure, and word choice. Order (syntax), character's point of view, imagery, metaphorical language, and other elements are all important. To put it another way, tone refers to how the author feels about his subject, character, or setting. And Mood describes the feeling that a reader has when reading a scene or a novel. The atmosphere (the vibe) of a scene or tale is more important than the reader's feelings. Happiness, despair, gloom, rage, distrust, loneliness, or even enthusiasm are all possibilities. The third is Technique, which is a writing style that allows an author to effectively and meaningfully communicate their message to their audience. It differs from one author to the next and is determined by the author's syntax, word choice, and tone. Lastly is Purpose, is the primary motivation for writing. The first is to inform, which usually involves presenting facts or explaining something, such as in a textbook or a news report. The second is to persuade, which usually involves arguing a point or attempting to persuade, such as in an editorial or commercial. The third function is to entertain, which is usually accomplished through the use of a poem, a humorous essay, or a short narrative.

I learned that the tone is the attitude of the narrator or viewpoint character toward story events and other characters. It is achieved through the word. Mood Is what the reader feels while reading the scene or story. It is not the reader’s emotions, but the atmosphere (the vibe)of a scene or story. It is what the reader reads or feels or notices. The purpose is the reason the author writes about a topic. This week's highlight is the tone, mood, technique, and purpose of the author.

In the morning, a little girl was playing in the park. She found something in the bush and it was a picture, she was mesmerized by the picture and decided to keep it. Days passed by she forgot about the picture until she became an adult and married. Her husband found the picture in her wallet and decided to ask her wife about it. "Who is the little boy in the photo?" her husband asked. "It was my First Love" his wife answered, her husband suddenly smiled and said, "I lost this picture when I was nine years old".

Quarter 3, Week 6 - Literary Devices

In week 6, our topic is all about Literary Devices. A Literary Device allows writers to allude to larger themes, ideas, and significance in a tale or piece of literature. It's used to provide a distinctive effect to their writing, either to deliver information or to assist readers to understand it better. Literary devices are often employed in literature to provide emphasis and clarity. There are many different types of literary techniques. The most common are simile and metaphor, which direct to the practice of creating parallels or analogies between two unconnected and contrasting things, persons, and so on. Second, foreshadowing is the use of suggestive words, phrases, and suggestions that set the scene for a tale to develop and offer the reader a sense of what is about to happen without exposing the plot or spoiling the tension. The third technique is a flashback, which occurs when the narrator travels back in time for a single scene or chapter to provide further context for the event. And there are many more styles.
The task we have to do is journal about the topic. I learned that Literary devices or literary techniques are specific structures that writers often use to add meaning or create more compelling stories for the reader. Some common examples are metaphor, alliteration, hyperbole, and imagery. These techniques can give the reader a greater understanding and meaning of the writer's intent. The highlights of the topic are Literary devices or literary techniques.

Quarter 3, Week 5 – Judging Validity of Evidence

Our lesson in week 5 is all about Judging Validity of Evidence. Each piece of evidence from the fiction or nonfiction work that may be used to back up ideas, arguments, opinions, or thoughts is known as text evidence. When we reference textual evidence, we paraphrase, quote, or allude to a specific section of the text to back up or support our beliefs. Finding textual proof, on the other hand, may not be sufficient. The evidence needed to establish that a statement or what is being said is true must be valid. The soundness and power of an argument are referred to as "Validity." There's a way to determine the validity of evidence. The first question is, who is the author of the source? Second is, how did the source get its information? Lastly, What if the source you have found does not have references?

We have Anglo-American Literature Icon. Stephenie Meyer Morgan was born on December 24, 1973. an American novelist and film producer. She is best known for writing the vampire romance series Twilight, which has sold over 100 million copies, with translations into 37 different languages. Meyer was the bestselling author of 2008 and 2009 in the U.S., having sold over 29 million books in 2008, and 26.5 million in 2009. Meyer received the 2009 Children's Book of the Year award from the British Book Awards for Breaking Dawn, the Twilight series finale.

I learned that Validity is a judgment based on various types of evidence. The relevant evidence includes the measure’s reliability, whether it covers the construct of interest, and whether the scores it produces are correlated with other variables they are expected to be correlated with and not correlated with conceptually distinct variables. The highlight of the topic is to be judged based on the planned usage of the data and should come from various sources.

Quarter 3, Week 4 – Relevance and Truthfulness of Ideas

Our lesson in week 4 is all about the Relevance and Truthfulness of Ideas. Relevance relates to how anything is connected to or practical to what is going on or being discussed. It examines the information's significance as well as whether it answers the queries you've posed. The goal and prejudice must be understood to establish relevance. On the other hand, Honesty, trustworthiness, and integrity are all characteristics of truthfulness. It implies perfect sincerity and precision in all elements. We have our Anglo-American Literature Icon.

William Shakespeare was born on April 26, 1564. William Shakespeare is widely considered the greatest dramatist of all time as well as the most influential writer in the history of the English language. He originated hundreds of words and phrases that English speakers use to this day. He was an English playwright, poet, and actor. He is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's greatest dramatist.
The activity we've done is a quiz about the topic. I learned that Relevance is the concept of one topic being connected to another topic in a way that makes it usable to consider the second topic when considering the first. Truthfulness is the quality of being honest and not containing or telling any lies. The highlight of the topic is to understand how important Relevance & Truthfulness, Because the truth is important to us as individuals as well as society as a whole. Being genuine lets us develop and mature as individuals, knowing from our mistakes. Truthfulness maintains social connections while lying and hypocrisy weaken them.

Quarter 3, Week 3 – Sensory Imagery

Our topic is all about Sensory Imagery. Sensory Images are a literary tactic used by authors to engage the imagination of the reader on numerous levels. It is the depiction of language employing the five human senses of sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell to convey language. It helps writers to create images in the mind of the reader. There are five types of Sensory Imagery; Visual Imagery, Auditory Imagery, Tactile Imagery, Olfactory Imagery, and Gustatory Imagery.

We have our Anglo-American Literature. Robert Browning (born May 7, 1812, London - died Dec. 12, 1889, Venice), a major English poet of the Victorian age, was noted for his mastery of dramatic monologue and psychological portraiture. His most noted work was The Ring and the Book (1868–69), the story of a Roman murder trial in 12 books.

The task we've done is a quiz about this week's topic. I learned that Sensory imagery is a literary device writers employ to engage a reader’s mind on multiple levels. Sensory imagery explores the five human senses: sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell. Sensory imagery helps readers join the world of the writer on their terms. Instead of writing what the reader should think or know, writers use sensory imagery to provide clues about what’s going on. Week's topic I didn't find it difficult to understand. The highlight of the topic is the importance of sensory imagery.

Quarter 3, Week 2 – Bias and Prejudice

Our lesson in week 2 is all about Bias and Prejudice. Our lesson in week 2 is all about Bias and Prejudice. Bias is the propensity to choose one person, group, item, or point of view over another in an unjust manner. And the author intentionally withholds or ignores information that might release the opposite viewpoint in a better positive light (bias). The author consciously submits evidence that helps to tell simply one side of an event or issue, intentionally withholding or disregarding information that might cast the opposing view in a better positive light. On the contrary, Prejudice is a negative view or sentiment developed without information, thinking, or reason before it is spoken. It only means to pass judgment on others before getting to know them. Likewise, it is an unnecessary or inaccurate (naturally unfavorable) mindset toward a person based simply on the individual's social group membership.

We have our Anglo-American Literature and it's Nicholas Charles Sparks. Nicholas Charles Sparks (born 31, December 1965) is an American novelist, screenwriter, and philanthropist. He has published twenty-two novels and two non-fiction books, all of which have been New York Times bestsellers, with over 115 million copies sold worldwide in more than 50 languages. Eleven of his novels have been adapted to film, including The Choice, The Longest Ride, The Best of Me, Safe Haven (on all of which he served as a producer), The Lucky One, Message in a Bottle, A Walk to Remember, Nights in Rodanthe, Dear John, The Last Song, and The Notebook. Sparks lives in North Carolina, where he contributes to a variety of local and national charities. He also sets many of his novels in that area. In 2011, he launched the Nicholas Sparks Foundation, a 501 nonprofit committed to improving cultural and international understanding through global education experiences for students of all ages.
I understood that Prejudice and bias are two factors in society which prove to be disastrous in promoting an air of peace and harmony between human beings. bias refers to a thought of an individual or a group that is leaning toward an area of life such as politics, society, religion, or economics while prejudice is the process of making a decision or judging something with a premature mind and making your facts instead of knowing the real truth about a person or a thing.
